“Knoxville City Mayor Madeline Rogero, a 1992 graduate of Leadership Knoxville, hosted the Youth Leadership class for an informal questions and answer session prior to the City Council meeting on Tuesday, October 28th. Citing her own personal experiences, Mayor Rogero encouraged the students to become engaged in public service and give back to the community. Mayor Rogero challenged the class to become the “best class ever” and offered both encouragement and enlightenment to class members to become leaders in both their schools and their community.
Mayor Rogers was joined by Deputy Mayor Christi Branscom, LK’09 and Vice Mayor Nick Pavlis, LK’97, and Community Services Director Thomas “Tank” Strickland, LK’00. Communications Director Jesse Mayshark provided coordination for the meeting.
Prior to the City Council Meeting, the entire City Council joined the class for brief introductions and provided their own personal examples of why they became involved in public service. City Council Members who are Leadership Knoxville graduates who spoke to the class in addition to Mayor Roger included: Vice Mayor Nick Pavlis, LK’07, Brenda Palmer, LK’13, Finnbarr Saunders, LK’07, George Wallace, LK’04.
