10 Year Vision for Knoxville
10 years from now, I envision Knoxville being the most diverse city in the State, with record numbers of gifted and talented students choosing to stay in Knoxville to plant roots, invest back into the community to ensure economic prosperity for all people.
What is Knoxville's Best Kept Secret?
Thousands of talented and gifted students choose to attend our flagship University from all over the world. We have some of the best research and development institutions in the country, advancing innovation technologies for the future.
What would you do to strengthen Knoxville?
I would encourage the large corporations to establish and/or increase diversity, equity, and inclusion goals to reach a minimum of 15% increase in the leadership and decision-making levels (vertically and horizontally).
What is your favorite Knoxville memory?
Being introduced to the most active and dedicated community leaders early in my career; they were great mentors for decades and have literally shaped by career path as a public servant.
What is your favorite book or what book is currently on your nightstand?
From the Bottom Up, written by Robert J. Booker aka Bob Booker.
What is the best advice you have received from a mentor, and who was that mentor?
My high school and college mentor was Dawnelle Hurd. Her advice was, when preparing and delivering a public presentation, if only one person attends, do so well that it feels like a 1,000 people are present.
What advice would you give to your 16 year old self?
Stick to the plan and learn lessons from all your life experiences.
