What is your vision for Knoxville 10 years from now? My vision isn’t for Knoxville to be the next Nashville, but for Knoxville to grow into its own boots. I hope Knoxville comes into its own as the driver of the region’s intellectual capital, technology, and natural beauty & resources. What is Knoxville's best kept secret? I think outsiders and even some Knoxville residents aren’t aware of the huge diversity of beautiful national and regional parks and recreational areas we have here, from the Urban Wilderness to the Smokies to Big South Fork to the Cherokee National Forest and beyond. What would you do to strengthen Knoxville? I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and get my hands dirty to support the organizations already working to strengthen Knoxville and make our home what it is. The saying is, many hands make light work, but many hands also make the work meaningful and inclusive. What is your favorite Knoxville memory? As a young child I vividly recall watching the Knoxville Blue Jays play in the old Bill Meyer Stadium. What is your favorite book or what book is currently on your nightstand? My favorite book is One More Step by Marcus J. Stewart. The Farmall Cub Encyclopedia is currently on my nightstand. What is the best advice you have received from a mentor, and who was that mentor? “Intestinal fortitude!” as said to me in Basic Training at Fort Benning, by my Company First Sergeant. I repeat it often. What advice would you give to your 16 year old self? Always trust your instincts, keep Matthew 6:34 close by, and do not sell your black 1972 Ford F100.
