10 Year Vision for Knoxville A city that has grown in ways that are thoughtful and planned, that has invested in underserved people and places, that still has a small community feeling, and where people of all ages and backgrounds can find a place to thrive. What is Knoxville's Best Kept Secret? As a relatively new transplant, I find new "secrets" -- or at least things I didn't know -- all the time! I think the fact that Knoxville is a "just big enough" city where you can drive for a few minutes and also feel like you're able to enjoy nature is one of the things that make it a gem. What would you do to strengthen Knoxville? That remains to be seen... I'm excited to learn more about some of Knoxville's biggest needs so I can better understand what I can contribute to strengthening the community. What is your favorite Knoxville memory? On my family's first trip to Knoxville (my second or third trip), about halfway through our day of touring and house hunting, my 6-year-old daughter declared "I like it. Can we move here?" She felt more at home her first time in Knoxville, than she did after two years in our last city. What is your favorite book or what book is currently on your nightstand? The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown What is the best advice you have received from a mentor, and who was that mentor? A former manager and mentor said that being able to truly listen, without judgement and not filtered by a personal agenda, is like a superpower. What advice would you give to your 16 year old self? Worry less about what everyone else thinks. Go out of your way try to include the "outsiders" in any situation. Hug your parents more.
