What is your vision for Knoxville 10 years from now?
Knoxville is blessed to be in an area of natural beauty which makes it a desirable place to live. I am hopeful that Knoxville grows in a way that enables it to remain welcoming, accessible and affordable to those who want to make it their home.
What is Knoxville's best kept secret?
Knoxville's best-kept secret is that the industries and companies located in our area attract highly educated, highly creative, and highly influential people.
What would you do to strengthen Knoxville?
Affordable housing is a need we have, ranging from quality rental options to entry-level and retirement homes available for purchase. Our topography and existing codes makes it difficult for builders to meet this need.
What is your favorite Knoxville memory?
When my boys were little, we spent so much time at the local parks and walking the greenways. I recall discovering all the options we had available. Pools, splash pads, playgrounds, walking trails, beaches, etc.
What is your favorite book or what book is currently on your nightstand?
The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein
What is the best advice you have received from a mentor, and who was that mentor?
I was concerned about filling the large shoes of my partners and whether I would be able to make decisions like theirs. My mentor, Matthew Ferrara, suggested that my own shoes fit me best, and to lead in my own way that might be different, but still effective.
What advice would you give to your 16 year old self?.
Worry less about the critics, don't overschedule your time, make space for your hobbies, wear sunscreen, try not to take work home, and if things don't go as planned, it's usually okay.
