What is your vision for Knoxville 10 years from now? Ten years from now I envision Knoxville to be one of the most innovative and inclusive cities in the country. By continuing to strengthen and enhance our education opportunities, workforce development, arts and recreational options, and our natural assets will make Knoxville a great place to live, learn, grow and play for individuals and families alike. What is Knoxville's best kept secret? Knoxville’s best kept secrets are all the amazing coffee shops across the community. What would you do to strengthen Knoxville? To strengthen Knoxville, I would encourage continued dialogue across city and county political representatives and community members to address many of Knoxville’s needs and concerns. Ensuring that all voices have been heard and providing an aligned and coherent focus toward solutions would help Knoxville continue to strengthen the core of our population. What is your favorite Knoxville memory? There are many favorite Knoxville memories, but some of my favorite memories include any Boomsday event, the 1982 World’s Fair, and UT Football games. What is your favorite book or what book is currently on your nightstand? Currently Reading My Dear Hamilton What is the best advice you have received from a mentor, and who was that mentor? Some of the best advice I have received was from a pastor at Fellowship Church, Kevin Huggins, who said always remember to place people over products. This always reminds me to always focus on hearing and seeking to understanding the people with whom I am working as more important than a product or process we are delivering. It will help us go further together. What advice would you give to your 16 year old self? I would tell myself to 1) remember to take care of yourself before you can take care of others, 2) create boundaries for yourself and others, and 3) determine when and where you have the strongest opportunity to advocate and when to spend time in listening and learning.
